The magniX Samson300 battery delivers 300 Wh/kg energy density, combining advanced safety features and modular design to power electric and hybrid-electric aircraft.

The Samson300, the first product in the line, is optimized to deliver extended range and increased payload capacity for applications such as eVTOLs, electric helicopters, and fixed-wing aircraft. Key features of the Samson batteries include over 1,000 full-depth discharge cycles for extended lifecycle and lower operating costs, patented safety technologies to prevent thermal runaway, modular architecture for scalability, and integrated power management electronics. The system also incorporates active cooling during charging for faster turnaround time and optional passive cooling in flight to minimize weight and complexity.

“magniX’s Samson batteries represent a breakthrough for magniX and electric aviation,” said Ben Loxton, VP of Energy Storage Systems (ESS) and the NASA Electric Powertrain Flight Demonstration (EPFD) Program at magniX. “With unrivalled energy density, cycle life, and safety features, magniX’s Samson batteries will help to unlock the tremendous potential of electric flight – enabling many eVTOLs and electric programs on the edge of viability to become viable.”

Focus on Safety and Certification

The Samson battery system has been developed to meet rigorous aviation certification standards, incorporating advanced engineering and safety measures. Patented safety features include cell-level protection from thermal runaway, ensuring reliability in demanding aerospace applications. Additionally, Samson batteries can be stored safely at zero charge for extended periods, enhancing operational flexibility.

Applications in Aerospace and Beyond

Samson batteries are tailored for battery-electric and hybrid-electric propulsion systems, supporting a range of aircraft types, including eVTOLs, helicopters, and fixed-wing designs. With their modular, high-performance architecture, the batteries are also well-suited for applications beyond aerospace, such as powering marine craft and other industrial sectors requiring advanced energy solutions.

“We are thrilled to introduce this revolutionary battery technology to the world of electric aviation and beyond,” said Reed Macdonald, CEO of magniX. “With the development of our Samson batteries, magniX can now offer customers a fully integrated electric powertrain, and it’s just the beginning. The roadmap to an energy density of 400Wh/kg or more is looking very promising. The future of flight is here, and it is being powered by magniX.”

Enabling the Future of Electric Flight

The launch of the Samson battery line represents a significant advancement for electric aviation, addressing critical challenges related to energy density, safety, and integration. By delivering a certifiable, reliable, and scalable energy solution, magniX is helping to accelerate the viability of electric and hybrid-electric aircraft programs while extending its technology into adjacent industries.
